Conventions of a Sci-Fi

Conventions of a Sci-Fi

The conventions of a sci fi genre consist of a plot that has a conspiracy and is usually about a smaller group of people during an uprising. This is shown in the film Alien, where a small group of people encounter a hostile alien race and create an uprising against them to fight back.

You can see from the trailer to Alien that there is a small group of people who are troubled by the Alien that exists and the people create an uprising and fight back.

Another is commonly used props which in a sci fi genre would be things like computers and technology and is usually futuristic or things that aren't realistically possible. Within the Alien trailer you can see that they are on a space ship, they sleep in futuristic looking pods and there is a lot of technology shown like androids and things that are quite unrealistic.
the mise en scene is quite conventional where scenes use low key lighting and dark clothing with a lot of shadows cast this is also shown in the Alien trailer with a lot of dark and low key lighting in a majority of the scenes.

The sound would be things like low pitch long dragged out notes giving an eerie feeling also by using a lot of eerie sounds. In this trailer of Alien, high pitched notes were used to give this eerie but fast paced action sci-fi thriller feel to the trailer drawing in many different types of audiences whilst also keeping to convention of a sci-fi
